what's a 'supper club'?
by definition, a 'supper' is defined as the following:
sup·per (sup'ər)
n.
1. A light evening meal when dinner is taken at midday.
2. A light meal eaten before going to bed.
3. A dance or social affair where supper is served.
more commonly, a 'supper club' is a place to eat in someone's home. not a proper
restaurant, but i guess not far away from it either. it has always been a
dream of mine to, one day, maybe own a tiny little place where i can
entertain guests endlessly, and serve the things i dream up on a daily
basis (mostly cakes and salads, to let you in). but i've seen it; it's
really tough, too... and, well, i'd also be a little scared, too. so
anyway, this is how i came up with the idea to entertain guests at home.
not only friends and family, obviously, but also people who like the
adventure of dining in someone's home. to eat something home-cooked, but
with the same love and care that a restaurant meal would be prepared
with. so i'm giving it a go, with this 'supper club' in my home. and
i'll just take it from there. of course, i'll document it here.
what does a typical fork and flower supper look like?
a typical supper starts with a welcome drink and antipasti, and consists of 3 to 5 (depending on the 'theme') courses. ususally included are a starter, main course, desserts and sweets. the fun about joining a supper club is, that you're not in a restaurant, but in someone's home. and when you're a guest in someone's home, that generally means you get what's being cooked. you don't get to choose from a menu at any fork and flower supper club. there is always just one menu; no extras. i cook in my typical way; dishes you would find on the blog. my speciality are vegetables. i only use carefully selected, fresh and whenever possible seasonal and local produce. i prepare as much as possible on my own, from the vegetable stock to the breads that i serve. there won't always be meat, some suppers might be entirely vegetarian. but that doesn't mean there's never any meat. when you don't like an ingredient, well, you're free to skip the dish. sometimes, depending on the dish, i might offer an alternative.

if
you want to come dine at the 'fork & flower supper club' - please
sign up for the email newsletter (by either sending me an email to [email protected] or by subscribing with your email adress on the right hand side of the home page, where it says "sign up") and/or the facebook page. that way you'll be informed about the next suppers, the dates, the prices and give you an amuse bouche about the planned menu... based on the reservations i receive, i will make a selection according to the guests' profiles and put together a group of people that i think will make for a great night. you will be informed by email if you get a seat. if not, there is always the next supper... (don't take it personally - we all know the world is one big competition... chuckle...).

can i come alone? or in a group?
hell, i'm single... i know how tough it can be to go somewhere, anywhere, on your own. and i know it can be pretty cruel to go out there to get to know new people. well, here you've got the chance to meet a couple of new, fun fellow dinner guests. so... of course, i'd love to squeeze you in on your own - but it's also possible to book the whole table for 8 to 10, too. just contact me either way, it will be fabulous to have you among my guests!
it's worth every penny... how much exactly?
i take 65 franks 100 franks for the food, on a fixed basis. apéro and wine are included in the new price. reduced complexity.
when and how do i pay?
each guest will be asked to pay cash on the day of the event. please make sure you've got enough money with you.
what if i've got a reservation and am prevented from coming?
sometimes, life gets in the way, and former plans have to be canceled. we've all been there. fair enough. but i'm not a professional restaurant. to host a supper event always involves a lot of planning and cooking - let alone resources. groceries are carefully calculated and shopped in advance. picture it: it wouldn't be fun to just sit around alone with 10 roasted chickens... therefore, guests are asked to confirm their reservation back and with it, they agree to my terms. namely: a cancellation (we hope it never happens) of a reservation later than three days prior to the supper will result in me asking for full compensation (i.e. dinner costs of 65 franks fix). in that case, you'll get a neat little bill from me via mail. thank you for your understanding.
where is the fork and flower supper club?
the suppers take place in my home, in zurich city. the exact address and my phone number (you never know what happens...) will be shared with the guests after the reservation is confirmed via email. in any case, it can be reached from the center / main station of zurich within 15 minutes by public transport (so that you always get home safely after a fun night with something to drink... we all know a glass of wine goes together with a good meal).
what else?
there
are good things in store, that much i can tell. like, maybe a tiny
little shop, where you guys can buy my food. think about the awesomest
cranberry sauce, a home-made green harissa or a fig chutney. okay, but
not today. let's do this supper club, first. and, well, let's see if you like
it. i'm excited!
looking forward to welcoming you soon at the fork and flower supper club.
