Hi folks, I’m back, and hasn’t it been ages, again… Sure couldn’t have planned for a better return than this, though. Having a toddler means getting to indulge in things that we, as grown-ups, tend to forget to enjoy. Immersing ourselves in play, simple, infinite play. I never thought I was going to be the mama who fills the home with kids’ paraphernalia. In fact, I might have turned up my nose at people who did so, whoops. But here we are, and apart from E’s room, every other room and nook in the flat has been conquered by her toys and knick-knacks, as well. I guess you change your mind. We were “en vacances” in the beautiful Provence, France. My aunt’s house has been my favorite vacay destination, ever since 1982. It’s a hidden, old gem with giant garden. Something about it being entirely non touristy makes it all the more special. And with bébé, I think it’s even better to have your own kitchen etc… Even more so, since we were on a mission: introducing solids! But I have to start at the beginning (tiny excursus following, please read on).

With baby, I soon found out that finding time for relaxation is almost impossible. Relaxation, what is that? Like, time for myself? I am two, and I will never be one again. Now you probably think, Scarlett, are you nuts? Well I read such an intriguing article recently, where the author and mom put the thought forward that after having kids, you’re not just one being anymore, but two. You’re your kids, as well. Over the past couple of months, I’ve lived the typical #momlife, with all the ups and downs you’d expect. Mostly, I’ve showcased the beauty of it. Like the cute chubby baby thighs, the smiles and giggles, the sweet clothes and toys, the active days on the go with the stroller, with baby sleeping soundly. That doesn’t mean though that there isn’t another side of the coin, too. Yes, babies are cute and all. And I obviously love mine (and my #momlife to go with it) like crazy. And of course, I have reported the odd negative aspect of #momlife, like the occasional poop explosion or burp accident or general sleep deprivation, too. But that doesn’t nearly cover it. Because #momlife, you guys, is tough shit.

So our friends’ daughter and C’s god-daughter turned one last weekend. Cue: Smash The Cake! I mean, come one, you can’t be a professional Pinner and NOT have a Smash The Cake Session, right? So ofc I volunteered (read: forced everyone to be allowed) to bring a sweet little cake entirely dedicated to the little lady, to turn the whole shabang into a sweet little, picture-worthy session. We’re a liiiittle late to the party regarding nursery “reveals”, given that little is alredy four months (what? eep!) old. Aren’t you supposed to do that before birth? Anyway. Ahem. But then again, a couple of inevitabilities (and, well, baby! ha, my favorite excuse these days) brought us this far: unorganized state (which we all know really is a euphemism for “mess”). Mind you, I’ve been planning little’s nursery ever since the day I found out I was pregnant (pretty much exactly one year ago today, weeep). I had just started twelve week boot camp. Yes, the irony! And well, i wasn’t feeling all too well in the mornings. So getting up at 5 am was like torture. Sorry, I’m rambling.. Okay fast forward nine months of pregnancy…

Mamahood. I always dreamed about it, but I never really knew what it meant. Let alone how much I would love it. It’s the most important challenge and adventure in my life. One thing is for sure: there is no going back to my old life, pre-mom. All my dreams came true, and now all my thinking and being is dedicated to being a mom. Well, maybe not alllll of the thinking (because, cake) - but a pretty big part anyway (in my spare-time, ha). I’m a full time lioness mom now, i guess. Ha!

One of the foods I love the most is Wähe - a Swiss version of the tart, that’s made with either fruit or vegs and some sort of a curd to hold it all together. My favorite version is sweet, of course (incorrigible sweet tooth, me). I like to make them with seasonal produce - apples in the fall and winter, raspberries in the summer, plums in late summer. Wähe is a super versatile dish. And it’s either a meal in its own right or a dessert. Ah, fun fact: Fridays used to be “Wähe” days in some homes and in some bakeries when I was a kid. Fun times, haha.
