Baked Churros (aka Waffle Sticks)

Baked Churros (aka Waffle Sticks)

When you love dough – which is a sentence I say like this – then the way leads to Churros, eventually. After Pancakes, Waffles, Dutch Babies, Donuts etc… It’s the next sweet thing. The deep frying is what keeps many from giving them a go. But with Betty Bossi’s Waffle Sticks iron, you can bake them in no time!

I reduced the amount of sugar in the recipe, but added a Churros style cinnamon and sugar coating on top instead. Add some chocolate sauce for dipping, and you’ve got a perfect snack that everyone adores. Dough lovers, this is for you… <3

Churros with Chocolate Sauce
aka Betty Bossi’s Waffle Sticks

Ingredients for the waffles:
80 g flour
30 g sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 pinch salt
90 g butter, melted
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla bean paste
3 tbsp. mineral water with bubbles

4 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. cinnamon for coating

Ingredients for the chocolate sauce:
150 g chocolate, roughly chopped
150 ml heavy cream

Directions:
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in the bowl of an electric stand mixer. Melt butter in a small saucepan, let cool. Add butter, egg, vanilla and mineral water to the flour mix. Mix well to combine. Bake portion by portion, for around 2 minutes, in the clever Betty Bossi Waffle Sticks iron. As soon as the Churros are baked to a golden perfection, remove with tongs and roll in cinnamon and sugar for that infamous, sugary Churros coating.

For the chocolate sauce heat 150 ml of heavy cream. Add the chocolate and stir well until fully dissolved. Let sit and cool a bit if you’re after a thicker sauce. Happy dipping! 🙂
