stop and stare

zurich is such a beautiful city. though it's neither as big as new york, nor as fancy as berlin or as chic as paris, to me it's just my beloved home (and you know what they say? they say that home is where the heart is). so, yes, i suppose i do love every angle of this city. especially on a sunshiny day with brilliant skies, like we had one only recently. right there and then, i coulnd't help but think that we should take some time to stop and stare more often...

and then we had 5 o'clock tea at the beaur au lac hotel's preppy lounge. so, after stopping and staring some while, it is just good to continue with some cake therapy. i still fantasize about that rasperry dream!

be my valentine

valentine's day is pretty close. and though it's the day of the loved ones, us europeans don't seem to be all that good at celebrating this particular holiday (and i must admit i'm not a really big fan of it myself...). for one, i don't particularly like pink - and everything valentine's day related seems to come in pink. plus i'm not into overly cheesy and girly stuff, either.

all the same, i think if you love someone it's nice to go on a date now and then. dress up, make yourself pretty for your mr. right and feel the butterflies in your stomach while spending a romantic night out at your favorite restaurant.

my favorite outfit for such a date night with mr. right would be a flirty dress, with a hint of red (not too pinkish, obviously) combined with a little sparkle and maybe a heart-shaped clutch or jewelry.

vienna exclusive

the weekend in vienna was amazing. not only did we spend some time with the most adorable people imaginable, we also did some shopping (me only the obligatory sacher torte), and, despite the bitter cold, some (admittedly very brief) sightseeing, too.

black tie me

vienna is the city of cities when it comes to balls. and this weekend, i'm going to be part of one. actually, i will be attending the first ball in a long, long time. no, rewind: i haven't been to a ball since i was a teenager. i think. so you can be pretty sure i am both, nervous and agitated. 

and ugh, the outfit matters are causing me a major headache... i want to dress according to the ball dress code, of course. and all the same i am striving for a no-frills look. so here's a list of my favorite black tie pieces.

love-scheme

yesterday i attended my first yoga class this year (don't ask me how bad my muscles are aching...). isn't it always so fulfilling to be working with your body? and not only is yoga good to move various (rather rusty) parts of the body, it also makes you more aware of the bigger things in life.

we were tought the word 'astaya', which in sanskrit means 'non-stealing'. 'non-stealing' invites us to not harbour any feelings of covetousness, either toward persons or objects, but to share and be generous instead. it invites us to be good towards others, not only with deeds but also with thoughts. the overall idea is to that by making someone feel good, you will feel twice as good. and by making someone feel special, you will feel twice as special.

so, i'm trying to make sure, within the next few weeks or so, that my special someone(s) feel loved. i'm thinking maybe a simple but nice dinner now and then, spending time listening to others and generally just being more alert to what others need and feel. i call it my love-scheme. fun! what would you do in order to make your special someone feel really special and loved?

winter bliss

it's been a bit more than just a week (in objects). honestly, this winter, i've already been to the most beautiful places. i've seen many a brillant winter sky (and if you're a regular reader you might have read about my sky-obsession before), snowboarded on perfectly snowy slopes, drank in lovely wooden bars, ate delicious rustic food and marched in casual, functional boots. welcome to my visual diary of the past few weeks; it's winter bliss.

folk favorite in january: the weepies

the weepies are a californian folk band based around the married couple deb talan and steve tannen, who first met in a cambridge folk club. since their get together in 2004, the weepies have progressed from an indie duo playing house concerts to ranks on the billboard charts. their accoustic folk and pop music is soft like ice-cream and it tastes of healthy country days and long nights by the fire, drinking hot chocolate. 

my favorite song is 'the world spins madly on' off their second album 'say i am you' is my new favorite song - and i'm positive that it will make it's way into my personal top ten charts even once january is over (you can watch the official music video here on youtube). 

gee, all in all, the weepies really shouldn't be an insider tipp any longer. plus if you like angus and julia stone enough, you will love the weepies. unfortunately, they haven't been touring a lot recently, since their son, theo, was born in 2008. hope is they will be making their way to europe soon enough.

happy new year everyone! isn't it funny how fast another year went by? quite disturbing. and the many changes it brought along, some still up and coming. how shall we master them all in 2011?

i am not a big fan of new year's resolutions... mostly, i've already skipped half of them before january is even over. but one thing every turn of the years makes me want to do is clean and tidy up everything around me. my flat, my clothes, myself. like a big sweeping detox.
