christmas at home

spending time with the family is the best thing. and since you get to spend a lot of time with the family on christmas, i just love christmas. we go back to many a holiday with a lovingly decorated home, elaborate, festive meals and family traditions. since we're always a rather big bunch of people we decided upon a simple but nonetheless festive meal this year, fondue chinoise - but admittedly the most elegant one i've ever had.

here's a few impressions from top to bottom: pre-christmas presents to my boyfriend with self-made doodled wrapping paper. my pile of neatly packaged gifts to my loved ones. table-setting at my parent's. the cat who was not allowed in since at first the doggie was visiting. a self-portrait of felix and me. various shots of the decoration around the house. my parents' perfected bar complete with ice cooler (which makes me so jealous).
it's been so nice. now i can't wait for the upcoming short stay in st. moritz at my friend's, and the four days at alsace in a small hotel with my boyfriend and friends over new year's eve. i will be away for some time, but i'll keep you posted in the new year. happy holidays!

birthday and countdown to christmas

the week before christmas is also the week of my birthday. let me tell you it was an amazing day. not that i celebrated in any special way. but i received so many best wishes, an overwhelmingly personal letter, and a surprise gift in my mailbox. all that really made my day special.

i'm not particularly fond of red roses. but the ones above are so unique, with a lovely, deep red and brimmed bloom. i got the scarf belov from a girlfriend for my birthday. it's got little birds on it. i love birds (as seen here), they are so cheery.

the sweet dessert my parents treated me to on my birthday; a mini coupe danmark. classy.

the quirky and whimsical angel hanging in the restaurant hilt's sky.

and the flowers, christmas roses, i got from my mom complete with the pretty silver vintage vase.

happy holidays, everyone. share the love.

home wish list

i'm not actually redesigning my home. but nonetheless, i am constantly thinking about improving it, and thus adding to my extensive home wish list. different shades of white and greys are what i'm most attracted to. i think they have a soothing impact and they're never out of style.

currently, i'm completely smitten with these transparent chairs. they add glamour and lightness to my much loved chalet style and are the perfect companion for wood and distressed, shabby interior elements. covered with a reindeer fur, they'd be lovely with our dining table.

and this pretty bronze beetle paperweight...! i mean, i don't even have a proper desk! i mean, i have no desk at all, actually. i am handling all my paper work and stuff on our dining table. but still: isn't it the cutest paperweight you've ever seen?

reindeers everywhere... christmas preparations part IV

the closer the end of the year is coming, i think the more insane and imaginative people get. for example they start to believe in magical things like santa, reindeers and love. because everyone wants to believe in something.

well, for me it's different: beliefs i've had forever turned out to actually be reality. did you know reindeers actually exist? i honestly thought they were just a mythical creature. maybe because i almost ever only saw them in cartoons or animated versions. now of course i think i'm totally stupid for not knowing... especially since i so love deer, so i should have known reindeers exist. sorry, santa, i never meant to hurt you.

so yes, it's been a week of revised beliefs, and reindeers, obviously. here's the elaborate proof of my reindeer encounters.

1 i discovered this 'the super dooper raindeer pooper' candy machine in a candy store. ugh, gross! and not actually a really good reindeer existence proof, if i think about it...

2 the (rein)deer i got from my 'wichtel' (we do that 'secret santa' stuff at the agency...) this week. it looks so smug.

3 footsteps of a reindeer on the street. i must have missed it by a hair... duh, too bad, really.

4 cloudy early morning skies over zurich. i'm obsessed with cloudy skies. and i swear i've even seen a reindeer fly away. right there! sorry the pictures are a bit blurry, but if you're really good, you can actually see one flying away in one of the pictures. no kidding.

if this is still not enough proof to you then let me tell you that i even saw a real reindeer fur last week. admittedly not on a living reindeer... but a very pretty 'dead' one in an interior shop. and wow, it must have been one of the prettiest furs i've ever seen! i desperately want one! to stroke and to hug and to lay my head on. how bad does that make me? anyway...

out of political (and furry) correctness, i won't post one just here (for the moment). all this simply must be evidence enough and to spare for you that reindeers exist, right? in any case: do come back, as i will be making sure to stay close on their, uhm, heels during the next few days or so before christmas.

reindeer love,

folk favorite in december: chief (the band)

how cool are those boys to look at? and where have they been? well, they've been born and bred on the us west coast, in los angeles, to be exact. or actually they just emerged out of nowhere.

the four piece band 'chief' around the brothers danny and michael fujikawa found together in new york during their college time. they're debut album 'modern rituals' (such a lovely boheme title) presents new age folk / rock music, inspired by the streets and hitch-hiking.

to cut a long story short (i always try): songs like 'night & day' will make you feel like cruising towards the sunset in a cabriolet (as if i needed any more inspiration for daydreaming, tut-tut...). and chiefly, despite all the troublesome preoccupations, life will be pretty again...

a little every-day glamour... christmas preparations part III

it's a good thing i took some of the pictures already last week, since i'm currently not experiencing much (cursing) from my bed. anyhow. i've been lucky enough to get my advance birthday present already this week (it's actually only on the 21st of december...). yes! my new chandelier with deer heads is here! i love it so much, thanks mom and dad. and the best thing? i can actually see it from (!) my bed... good perspectives after all... lol.

1 my new deer chandelier; perfection. both, in daylight and in the dark, aglow. more tell-all evidence of my deer-fanatism can be found here and here.

2 my new lanvin (hearts) h&m faux fur jacket. it's pretty and warm! though i do feel like an ice bear in it (and not a tiny one...). but honestly, shopping those special h&m collections might be a drag, what with the hundreds of fashionistas storming the shops in the early morning already... but still: it is a rather nice brand experience, what with the pretty bags with silk handles and the accompanied suit bags you get for free. confession: scarlett (hearts) lanvin (hearts) h&m.

3 our only real christmas decoration at home consists of this wreath with feathery lights around it which i hung up on the balcony window. the lights are on almost non stop.

4 i am planning to wear this gold brocade shoulder-free tulip dress on christmas (and maybe on new year's eve, too, if it's not too cold where we are staying in the alsace). can you believe it's from h&m and cost only around 30 bucks? it certainly looks just like a miu miu.

5 i got this michael kors bag as an early birthday gift to myself. i know, it's a bit early, again. but not completely unreasonable, since i've been searching for the perfect 'beautiful big black bag' for ages, as you can read here. and i think this one is pretty close to perfection.

6 this obscure skull scarf, which i considered lost somewhere. it's one of my favorite winter accessories and i'm so glad to have it back (thanks to my cupboard for spitting it out). you've been able to read about my obsession with skulls several times before, like here).

enjoy the cold, wear mittens and be smitten with winter!
love
