home wish list: shabby chic at its best

a few things have changed in my live, lately. like: it looks as though i'm finally going to be the official renter of our flat. i feel so liberated! and with it comes the desire to finally change a few things around my home. it's not that i've been careless... it's just that, now that i know that i won't have to leave anytime soon, i finally feel like i should be starting to style everything the way i always wanted it to look like.

here are some of my (many) eternal interior dreams.

1 a chalkboard wall
i would love to have a chalkboard wall, i.e. a wall painted with charcoal black chalkboard paint. so i could paint, scribble and write on it, everyday something new, according to my liking. like recipes, menues, wishlists, love vows or simply greetings. i know, painting walls dark black is not very reasonable in a rented flat. but ugh! why are we always so shouldn't/couldn't/wouldn't-y?

2 a vintage couch (preferably in old linen)
my parents have a really nice old couch in their cellar (!), that is waiting for me to come and get it. unfortunately, it really needs a new fabric first (the blue flowery print i chose when i was about 7 or 8 is neither fashionable nor accurate anymore). i would love to upholster the couch with a grey or black plain fabric with a vintage feel, something like a worn-out linen. i love linen for furniture, particularly in grey. it's something so nonchalantly luxurious.

3 chalet chic elements
i love chalet chic, i practically grew up with chalet chic. my mom is the unbeaten expert at everything around chalet styles. so i've pulled together a list of favorites over the years. here's the essentials i am working on getting, myself. i've  already got a cow fur rug in brown (not as good as a bear or something with the head on, though). and a pretty crystal chandelier with deer heads is on its way.... yay!

4 shabby chic decor
and to complete the look, a few thrift or simply shabby chic items, like a travel suitcase, vintage bookshelf, books, telephone or globes. and something i absolutely must have one day: the vivienne westwood flag cushion (or even better: the rug from the rug company).

when i start to dream i get carried away much too easily... hope you enjoyed the post. i'll make sure to come back and add to my (already massive) home wish list.

  1. I'm salivating.

Love the first two couches and would adore seeing them successfully in the same room.
